On Saturday, Philadelphia Flyers General Manager Daniel Briere announced that the club has signed restricted free-agent defenseman Jamie Drysdale to a four-year, $26 million contract extension, successfully avoiding a scheduled salary arbitration hearing.
The new agreement carries an average annual value (AAV) of $6.5 million, locking down the 24-year-old defenseman through the 2029-30 NHL season.

“We're excited to have Jamie remain a key part of our organization for years to come,” said Briere. "Since we acquired him, Jamie has worked extremely hard and taken big steps in his development, and has established himself as a reliable piece on our back end with the ability to impact the game in all situations. We believe his best hockey is still ahead of him, and he's going to play an important role in strengthening our blue line as we continue to build.”
Drysdale is coming off his best season, as he had a career-high eight goals along with 24 assists and 32 points in 78 games. He also tied his career high in points, having previously gotten 32 in 2021-22, but it came in three fewer games.
The Flyers have had an active summer, as they’ve extended Dan Vladar, Tyson Foerster and Trevor Zegras, acquired Joseph Woll via trade, dealt Garnet Hathaway and Emil Andrae, signed Noel Acciari and Zach Aston-Reese, and also attempted to sign Anaheim Ducks center Leo Carlsson via an offer sheet.
