On Wednesday, the Edmonton Oilers announced the signing of 36-year-old goaltender Frederik Andersen to a one-year contract.
The deal carries a highly manageable $1 million base salary, maximizing Edmonton's tight salary cap situation, with an additional $1.8 million available in performance bonuses based on games played and playoff success. If all bonuses are hit, the maximum value of the contract reaches $2.8 million.

The veteran netminder is coming off an incredible postseason run with the Carolina Hurricanes, where he posted a brilliant 1.89 goals-against average and a .910 save percentage to help Carolina capture the Stanley Cup before a knee injury sidelined him late in the Final. Andersen finished the postseason with a record of 13-2 with a .910 SV%, 1.89 GAA and three shutouts.
Crucially, this move reunites Andersen with newly appointed Oilers head coach Mike Babcock. The two spent parts of four seasons together with the Toronto Maple Leafs, where Andersen operated as Babcock's heavily trusted workhorse.
Andersen joins a radically overhauled goaltending room in Edmonton. Earlier in the day, the Oilers executed a blockbuster trade to acquire highly touted 24-year-old netminder Devon Levi from the Buffalo Sabres.
