“Jacob is an established veteran leader in this league who possesses size and a relentless drive to win,” Panthers general manager Bill Zito said in a statement. “We are excited for him to compete alongside our established group and return to South Florida.”
Over 578 career NHL games with the Devils, Flames, Canucks and Panthers, Markstrom owns a 2.73 goals-against average and .907 save percentage.
Markstrom, 36, posted a 3.07 goals-against average and an .883 save percentage in 44 games this past season. He has spent the last two seasons with the Devils after being traded to New Jersey by the Calgary Flames in June 2024.
Acquiring Markstrom requires some significant salary cap maneuvering for the Panthers. The Swedish netminder will be entering the first year of a two-year contract extension carrying a heavy $6-million cap hit.
