The Buffalo Sabres have re-signed winger Beck Malenstyn to a six-year contract extension with an average annual value (AAV) of $3 million.

While Malenstyn's offensive numbers won't jump off the page, he tallied seven goals and seven assists for 14 points in 81 games this past season, his impact is felt shift after shift. He has established himself as the undisputed physical heartbeat of the Sabres' roster.

During the 2025-26 campaign, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound enforcer set a franchise single-season record with an astonishing 282 hits. Furthermore, he ranked second among all Buffalo forwards with 75 blocked shots. Malenstyn also added three points (one goal, two assists) in 13 Stanley Cup Playoff games this spring, providing vital heavy minutes during Buffalo's postseason run.

Buffalo originally acquired him from the Washington Capitals during the 2024 NHL Draft in exchange for a second-round pick. At the time, the price tag seemed steep for a depth forward, but Malenstyn has rewarded the front office by embracing his role and becoming a fan favorite.

Malenstyn became a full-time professional in the 2018-19 season after the completion of his junior career in the Western Hockey League (WHL), spent mostly with the Calgary Hitmen. That year, he played 74 games with Washington’s American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate Hershey Bears, notching seven goals and nine assists for 16 points.
