Just a day after acquiring Jordan Kyrou, Washington Capitals General Manager Chris Patrick struck again, landing star power forward Alex Tuch in a massive sign-and-trade deal with the Buffalo Sabres on Wednesday.
In exchange for the 30-year-old winger, who immediately inked an eight-year, $84 million contract extension ($10.5M AAV) upon his arrival, the Sabres receive forward David Kampf and a 2027 third-round draft pick (originally belonging to San Jose).

Tuch brings a highly coveted blend of size, speed, and scoring ability. The 6-foot-4 power forward registered 33 goals and 66 points in 79 games for Buffalo this past season, playing a key role in their physical attack. Paired with Tuesday's acquisition of Kyrou, the Capitals have aggressively overhauled their offensive identity, adding two dynamic, high-scoring wingers to their roster in a matter of 48 hours.
In return, Buffalo brings in a defensive-minded depth center in the 31-year-old Kampf, along with a 2027 third-round pick to add to their growing collection of draft capital. The move comes right on the heels of the Sabres dealing defenseman Bowen Byram to Chicago for the No. 4 overall pick, signaling a busy and transformative draft week for the franchise.
