To #Blackhawks:
LD Bowen Byram
LW Jordan Greenway
To #Sabres:
2026 CHI 1st Round Pick (No. 4 overall)
2026 NYI 2nd Round Pick (No. 45 overall)
LD Louis Crevier
For the Blackhawks, this deal represents a massive bet on a player entering the prime of his career. Byram, who just turned 25, is coming off a career year in Buffalo, where he posted 11 goals and 42 points in 82 games while logging over 22 minutes of ice time per night.
Despite his success—which includes a 2022 Stanley Cup ring with Colorado—Byram has never been the undisputed top dog on a blue line, playing behind Cale Makar with the Avalanche and Rasmus Dahlin in Buffalo. In Chicago, he instantly becomes the No. 1 defenseman and the power-play quarterback. He joins a promising but young defensive core that includes Alex Vlasic and recent first-round picks Kevin Korchinski and Sam Rinzel, providing crucial championship pedigree and mentorship.
Adding Greenway to the deal also addresses Chicago's need for bottom-six size and defensive responsibility. The 6-foot-6 forward is a proven penalty killer who will make life difficult for opposing defensemen on the forecheck while providing insulation for franchise center Connor Bedard.
