The Washington Capitals have acquired forward Jordan Kyrou from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for forward Connor McMichael, prospect Milton Gastrin, and the No. 16 overall pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, the club announced Tuesday afternoon.

Kyrou arrives in D.C. under contract for the next five seasons at an $8.125 million AAV. Before a slight dip in production this past season, he posted three consecutive 30-goal campaigns and brings a level of transition offense and playmaking vision that the Capitals desperately needed. Kyrou tallied 18 goals and 46 points in 72 games.

McMichael racked up 14 goals and 46 points in 78 games with the Capitals in the 2025-26 season; the previous year, he scored 26 goals and 57 points in 82 games with Washington.

For the Blues and General Manager Doug Armstrong, this trade represents a massive acceleration of their re-tooling effort. St. Louis now possesses a staggering four first-round selections in Friday's 2026 NHL Draft in Buffalo—holding picks No. 11, No. 15, No. 16, and No. 29.

Beyond the draft capital, St. Louis also adds two intriguing pieces to their forward depth. McMichael gives them an immediate, NHL-ready middle-six forward who is entering his prime as a restricted free agent. Meanwhile, Gästrin, the No. 37 overall pick in the 2025 Draft, is coming off a strong season playing against men in the Swedish Hockey League (SHL) with MoDo Hockey, where the 6-foot-1 center posted 24 points in 39 games
