The deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $3.3 million, keeping the towering penalty-kill specialist in the State of Hockey through the 2031-32 season.
The 31-year-old Michigan native was widely viewed as the Wild's top priority among their pending unrestricted free agents. Guerin made an aggressive push to acquire McCarron just prior to the trade deadline on March 3, shipping a 2028 second-round draft pick to the Nashville Predators in exchange for his service.
Standing at a massive 6-foot-6 and weighing 232 pounds, McCarron instantly injected much-needed size and grit into Minnesota's lineup. During the regular season, he recorded three goals and two assists over 20 games following the trade. However, his value was truly highlighted in the postseason as the Wild pushed to the second round. Averaging nearly 15 minutes of ice time per night during the playoffs, McCarron chipped in two goals and two assists across 11 games while winning 54.5% of his faceoffs.
Throughout his career the former Nashvlle Predators and Montreal Canadiens forward has 36 goals and 43 assists for 79 points in 381 appearances.
