Additionally, per Frank Seravalli, franchise icons Daniel and Henrik Sedin have been promoted to co-presidents of hockey operations.

The sweeping changes come in the wake of former GM Patrik Allvin being dismissed last month, alongside the announcement that President of Hockey Operations Jim Rutherford will step down following the 2026 NHL Draft.
Johnson’s ascension to the GM chair is the culmination of a decade-long climb through the organization. The Thunder Bay, Ontario, native has deep ties to Vancouver, having played for the club during the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons. Shortly after retiring in 2011, Johnson returned as a development coach. He steadily rose through the ranks, becoming the assistant director of player development in 2015 and the director of player development two years later.
Simultaneously, Johnson took the reins as GM of the Canucks' AHL affiliate, guiding them from Utica through their transition to Abbotsford. His minor-league executive resume is highlighted by constructing the roster that captured the Abbotsford Canucks' first Calder Cup championship in 2025.
At the NHL level, Johnson served as a special assistant to Allvin from 2022 to 2024 before spending the past two seasons as Assistant General Manager.
The Sedin twins, whose names are synonymous with Canucks hockey, initially rejoined the organization as special advisors to the GM during the 2021-22 season before transitioning into development coaching roles the following year.
