Carrick, who was acquired from the New York Rangers at the trade deadline, has been sidelined since suffering an upper-body injury during a fight with New York Islanders captain Anders Lee on March 31. Markham, Ontario native had provided a surprising offensive spark following his arrival in Buffalo; he tallied five goals in just 13 games with the Sabres after recording only four goals in 60 games with the Rangers.
The Sabres will also be without 2022 first-round pick Noah Ostlund (No. 16 overall). After making his NHL debut last season, the Swedish forward earned a permanent roster spot this year and flourished. Ostlund concluded his rookie regular season with 27 points (11G, 16A) in 60 games.
The Sabres will find out their opponent for the second round on Sunday upon the conclusion of Game 7 of the Atlantic Division’s other first-round series between the Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning
