The Seattle Kraken announced Thursday that assistant coach Jessica Campbell will be leaving the club to explore other coaching opportunities.

Campbell, who made history as the first woman to serve as a full-time assistant coach in the NHL, has been a pivotal member of the Kraken’s staff since her promotion from the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds.

“As Jessica’s current contract expires, she has expressed her desire to explore other coaching roles across the League and we support her in this process,” said EVP and General Manager Jason Botterill. “Jessica has been an important member of our coaching staff for the past four years, demonstrating deep knowledge, and a unique ability to connect with and develop players. We respect her decision and believe strongly in her as a coach in this league.”

During her time in Seattle, Campbell was primarily tasked with overseeing the team's power play and skill development. Under her guidance, the Kraken saw significant growth in their young core, with several players posting career-high offensive numbers over the last two seasons.

Before joining the NHL ranks, she earned widespread acclaim while coaching alongside Dan Bylsma in the AHL, helping lead the Firebirds to a Calder Cup Finals appearance.

Prior to her coaching experience, Campbell played three seasons for the Calgary Inferno of the Canadian Women’s Hockey League, as well as being a standout at Cornell University for four seasons.
