The incident occurred during a chaotic scrum midway through the second frame. While Walker was tied up with Ottawa's Warren Foegele, Greig approached the pair and delivered an unsuspecting gloved punch square to Walker's chin, dropping the defenseman to the ice.
Because the Senators have already been eliminated from the playoffs, any supplemental discipline handed down to Greig will carry over to the start of the 2026-27 regular season. The Department of Player Safety could choose to suspend him for preseason or regular-season games, depending on how severe they judge the infraction to be. The hearing will be conducted via telephone, by league rule, a phone hearing means the maximum suspension Greig can receive is five games.
The Senators originally selected Greig in the first round (No. 28 overall) of the 2020 NHL Draft, using a pick they acquired from the New York Islanders in exchange for Jean-Gabriel Pageau. Greig has tallied 41 goals, 104 points, and 221 penalty minutes over 247 games.
