A nightmare Sunday afternoon at TD Garden has left the Boston Bruins season on life support. Amidst a 6-1 blowout loss to the Buffalo Sabres, the Bruins lost forward Viktor Arvidsson who was ruled out with an upper-body injury.

The injury occurred midway through the first period. Arvidsson was chasing a puck deep in the Buffalo zone when he was met with a heavy, clean check from Sabres defenseman Mattias Samuelsson. Arvidsson appeared to take the brunt of the impact on his left arm and shoulder area. He played only 3:13 of ice time before retreating to the locker room; the Bruins officially ruled him out for the remainder of the game during the first intermission.

Arvidsson’s departure coincided with a historic first-period collapse for Boston. The Bruins allowed four goals in the opening 20 minutes, the first time that has happened to the franchise in a playoff game since 1991. The loss of Arvidsson strips the Bruins of their most productive second-line winger. He was tied for the team lead in playoff goals with two entering Sunday.

Arvidsson saw a return to form in his first season with the Bruins in 2025-26, where he had 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points in 69 games.

The Bruins will look to keep their season alive when they travel back to Buffalo for Game 5 of their series on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. EST.
