Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Craig Berube addressed the media regarding his job security following the Maple Leafs' disastrous 2025-26 campaign.

When asked bluntly if he expects to be behind the bench for the 2026-27 season, Berube provided a one-word answer: "Yes." However, Berube was very ominous in stating that he hasn’t received any indication from MLSE CEO Keith Pelley about his future with the club.

The 2025-26 season was a big regression for a team that won the Atlantic Division just one year ago. The Leafs finished with 78 points (32-36-14), a staggering 30-point drop-off from their previous campaign. The team not only missed the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 campaign, the season before Toronto drafted current captain Auston Matthews with the first overall pick.

Despite the vitriol from a frustrated fanbase, Berube stood by his veteran core of Matthews, William Nylander, and John Tavares. β€œThere’s a good core here, good players and good people,” Berube insisted. β€œI do believe we can bounce back. We have to make some adjustments and maybe bring in some different people, but the foundation is there.”

In two seasons in Toronto, the Leafs have a regular-season record of 84-62-18.
