Hockey Canada has officially announced the executive leadership team tasked with building a gold-medal contender for the upcoming 2026 IIHF Men’s World Championship.

The group is headlined by Brad Treliving, who will serve as the lead for the management team, and Jason Spezza. They will be supported by Pittsburgh Penguins President and GM Kyle Dubas, along with Hockey Canada senior vice-president Scott Salmond.

“Brad brings invaluable experience from previous international events and the NHL, and Jason is a rising NHL executive that brings a wealth of experience as a player both professionally and internationally, and we are excited that these two will lead our team at the IIHF World Championship,” Salmond said in a statement. “Kyle’s experience from the previous two world championships, 4 Nations Face-Off and Olympics will provide consistency to our program, and while Kyle continues to prioritize the success of the Pittsburgh Penguins, we look forward to his support as Brad and Jason build a staff and roster that gives us the best chance to be successful in Switzerland.”

Treliving previously served as GM of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Treliving brings a wealth of international experience to the role. He previously served as co-GM when Canada won gold at the 2016 World Championship and was an assistant GM during the 2014 tournament.

Spezza is currently the Assistant GM of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Spezza transitions into the management side of Hockey Canada for the first time. As a player, Spezza was a decorated international performer, winning gold in 2015 and twice being named to the tournament All-Star team.

Dubas will provide additional support and consistency. His recent work with Hockey Canada at the 2026 Winter Olympics and the 4 Nations Face-Off makes him a vital link for roster continuity.

Canada enters the 2026 tournament looking to return to the top of the podium after a bronze-medal finish in 2025. They are scheduled to open the tournament against Sweden on May 15. Canada owns the record for both gold (28) and total medals (53), but have failed to medal in the past two tournaments. Canada won gold in 2021 and 2023, and silver in 2019 and 2022.
