With a point earned in Monday night's shootout loss against the Philadelphia Flyers, the Carolina Hurricanes have officially clinched the No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference for the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The Hurricanes sit at 111 points, a mark that mathematically eliminates the Buffalo Sabres and Tampa Bay Lightning from catching them for the conference's top spot. This ensures that the Hurricanes will hold home-ice advantage for at least the first three rounds of the postseason.

This marks the second time in four seasons that the Hurricanes have finished atop the Eastern Conference. Under head coach Rod Brind'Amour, Carolina has established a blueprint of relentless puck pressure and defensive stifling that has made PNC Arena a graveyard for visiting teams.
Seven players have eclipised the 20-goal mark this season for Carolina including Seth Jarvis, Andrei Svechnikov, Sebastian Aho, Nikolaj Ehlers, Jackson Blake, Logan Stankoven and Jordan Staal.
By securing the No. 1 seed, the Hurricanes have set their first-round date with the second Wild Card spot. While the Eastern Conference field is set, the final seeding for the Wild Card remains fluid with Carolina likely facing either the Ottawa Senators or Boston Bruins. A win by Boston on Tuesday would lock Ottawa into the No. 2 wild card slot, while a loss by Boston would allow the Senators to pass the Bruins with a win on Wednesday.
