The injury occurred during the second period of Saturday night's contest at the Bell Centre. Dobson, the NHL's leader in blocked shots this season, took a heavy Zach Werenski slap shot directly to his left hand. He immediately dropped his glove and headed to the locker room in visible distress, failing to return to the game. Prior to his departure, Dobson had skated a total of 12:57 in 11 shifts, blocked a shot, recorded a hit and posted a minus-2 rating.
In 80 games this season, the 26-year-old P.E.I. native has recorded 47 points (12G-35A) while averaging over 22 minutes of ice time per night. Dobson is in his first season as a member of the Canadiens after coming over in a blockbuster trade with the New York Islanders over the summer.
In a corresponding move, the Canadiens have recalled 2023 fifth-overall pick David Reinbacher from the AHL’s Laval Rocket. The 21-year-old Austrian defenseman has tallied 24 points in 57 games with Laval this season and is expected to make his highly anticipated NHL debut tonight
