Longtime Hockey Night in Canada fixture Scott Oake announced on Saturday night that the 2025–26 season will be his last.

The 72-year-old veteran made the announcement during the After Hours segment following the Edmonton Oilers' game against the Vegas Golden Knights.

Oake, whose broadcasting career has spanned over 50 years, emphasized that the decision to retire was entirely his own. "I would like you to know that the decision to retire is mine. I'm going out on my own terms. And I greatly appreciate the opportunity, because not everybody in this business gets it".

Oake will host his final edition of After Hours on Saturday, April 11, 2026, during the matchup between the Vancouver Canucks and San Jose Sharks. While his regular-season duties end next week, Oake will remain part of the Sportsnet/CBC coverage team throughout the 2026 Stanley Cup Playoffs before officially hanging up the microphone.

He joined the Hockey Night in Canada team in 1989 and remained a central figure through the program's transition from CBC to Sportsnet in 2014. Oake is best known for developing and hosting After Hours, a long-form post-game interview series famous for its candid and often deeply personal conversations with NHL stars.

Beyond the rink, Oake covered 12 Olympic Games, as well as the Commonwealth Games and CFL football. He is a recipient of the Order of Canada and the Order of Manitoba, and was inducted into the Manitoba Hockey Hall of Fame in 2015.
