The Columbus Blue Jackets announced Friday that defenseman Damon Severson underwent surgery to repair his shoulder and will miss the rest of the 2025-26 NHL season.
The surgery took place on Thursday, April 2, following additional medical evaluation that determined a "week-to-week" recovery timeline was no longer viable for the veteran blueliner.

Severson’s season was cut short during a 2–1 loss to the Montreal Canadiens on March 26. With 8:21 remaining in the third period, Severson was checked hard into the boards by Canadiens forward Zachary Bolduc. He immediately left the ice favoring his shoulder and did not return. He had scored the Blue Jackets' lone goal of the game prior to the injury.
In 71 games this season, Severson has eight goals and 24 assists for 32 points while averaging 21:04 of ice time. In three seasons with the Blue Jackets, the 31-year-old has 23 goals and 62 assists for 85 points in 208 regular-season games in 20:25 of ice time.
The Blue Jackets are 38-26-12 with 88 points in 76 games, fourth in the Metropolitan Division and tied with the Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings in the Eastern Conference Wildcard race.
