Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin added yet another unprecedented milestone to his legendary resume on Tuesday night. Ovechkin scored twice in a 6-4 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers and became the first player in NHL history to record 20 career 30-goal seasons.

Ovechkin is now just the fourth player in NHL history to score 30 goals in a single season at age 40 or older. He now joins Gordie Howe, Johnny Buyck and Teemu Selanne as the only 30-goal scorers over the age of 40 in NHL history.

This milestone caps off a remarkable 10-day stretch for Ovechkin, who scored his 1,000th career goal (combined regular season and playoffs) against the Colorado Avalanche and recorded his 34th career hat trick against the Utah Mammoth, passing Brett Hull for fourth all-time.

The 40-year-old Ovechkin now has 30 goals and 28 assists for 58 points in 75 games with the Capitals this season. Through 21 NHL seasons, the Moscow native has 927 goals and 754 assists for 1,681 points in 1,566 career regular-season games. In 161 career playoff games, he has 77 goals and 70 assists for 147 points. He led the Capitals to their only Stanley Cup championship in franchise history in 2018.

The win moved Washington (85 pts) to within three points of the Columbus Blue Jackets for the final Eastern Conference wild-card spot.
