The Philadelphia Flyers announced Sunday that they have signed top prospect Porter Martone to a three-year, entry-level contract.
The move comes less than 24 hours after Martone’s freshman season at Michigan State ended in heartbreaking fashion, as the Spartans surrendered a late two-goal lead to lose 4–3 in overtime to the Wisconsin Badgers in the NCAA regional finals.
Martone, the No. 6 overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, finishes his collegiate career with 50 points (25G, 25A) in just 35 games, he finished fourth in the country in points and tied for second in goals, averaging 1.43 points per game.
Before joining Michigan State, he captained the OHL’s Brampton Steelheads, where he recorded 98 points in 57 games during the 2024–25 season. He captained Team Canada at the 2026 World Juniors, leading the entire tournament with six goals and earning a bronze medal.
Daily Faceoff's Steven Ellis noted this about Martone's game, "He’s a dual-threat as a shooter and a playmaker, and he likes to play with power. Martone has already shown he’s an NHL-caliber player with MSU – he thinks and activates at a high rate."
With the Flyers at 84 points and currently sitting just one point out of a wild-card spot with nine games remaining, Martone is expected to provide an immediate offensive boost. Reports indicate Martone could be in the lineup as early as Tuesday, March 31, when the Flyers face the Washington Capitals.
