The New York Islanders acquired Brayden Schenn from the St. Louis Blues in exchange for Jonathan Drouin, a 2026 first-round pick, a third-round pick and Marcus Gidlof.

In 61 games played this season, Schenn has 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points while skating to a minus-23 rating. A 2019 Stanley Cup champion, Schenn brings 82 games of postseason experience and a physical "edge" that GM Mathieu Darche prioritized.

The 34-year-old veteran, who was the No. 5 overall pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, has 713 career points (290 goals and 423 assists) in 1,083 career regular season games. Schenn was in the midst of his ninth season in St. Louis after having previously spent six seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers, who acquired him in a blockbuster trade with the Los Angeles Kings as part of a deal for center Mike Richards.

Heading to the Blues in the deal is Jonathan Drouin, who recorded 21 points (8G, 13A) in 55 games with the Islanders this season. The former 2013 third-overall pick remains under contract through the 2026-27 season with a manageable $4 million salary cap hit.

The trade comes at a critical juncture for New York, as the team currently sits third in the Metropolitan Division with a 35-23-5 record.
