The Utah Mammoth acquired MacKenzie Weegar on Wednesday from the Calgary Flames in exchange for three second-round picks, defenseman Olli Maatta, and prospect center Jonathan Castagna.

To Calgary #Flames:
Three 2nd Round Picks
Prospect
LD Olli Maatta
To Utah Mammoth #TusksUp:
RD Mackenzie Weegar
Weegar agreed to waive his no-trade clause. He has five years left on his deal at $6.25 million.
Weegar arrives in Utah averaging 23:07 of ice time per game this season, with just three goals and 18 assists for 21 points in 60 games. Despite a struggling Flames team, Weegar ranks second in the NHL in blocked shots (143) and ninth in hits (130) among defensemen this season.
Maatta has struggled offensively with one assist in 22 games with the Mammoth. He missed nine games earlier in the season due to an upper-body injury, but has also missed a lot of time as a healthy scratch. Meanwhile, Castagna was a third round pick by the Arizona Coyotes in 2023. He has 14 goals and 18 assists for 32 points in 29 games with Cornell University.
With the addition of three second-rounders, Calgary now holds six picks in the first two rounds of the 2026 NHL Draft.
Due to visa processing, Armstrong noted it could be 4 to 10 days before Weegar officially joins the Mammoth lineup. Utah (32-25-4) currently occupies the first Wild Card spot in the Western Conference.
