The New York Rangers officially placed captain J.T. Miller on injured reserve Tuesday with an upper-body injury.

According to multiple reports, the injury is a new issue and is unrelated to the upper-body ailment that forced Miller to miss seven games earlier this season between December and January. The 32-year-old appeared to be injured during Monday night’s 5-4 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets. During the third period, Miller was knocked to the ice in a net-front battle with Erik Gudbranson and appeared to be hit by a shot while down.

In 51 games this season, Miller has recorded 38 points (14 goals, 24 assists), ranking third on the team in scoring. Miller had picked up apples in each of the team’s past two games, having registered points in six of the past eight games.

In 922 NHL games, Miller has scored 274 goals and 473 assists for 747 points.

The Rangers (23-29-8) currently sit in last place in the Eastern Conference, 17 points out of a Wild Card spot.
