The Carolina Hurricanes announced Monday that they have signed goaltender Brandon Bussi to a three-year contract extension through the 2028-29 season. The deal carries an average annual value (AAV) of $1.9 million.
Bussi’s 2025-26 campaign has been nothing short of historic. After being claimed off waivers from the Florida Panthers just before the season began, the 27-year-old undrafted rookie has completely taken over the Carolina crease.
Earlier this month, Bussi set a new NHL record by reaching 21 wins in just 25 games, surpassing the previous mark held by Hall of Famer Bill Durnan and "The Hamburglar" Andrew Hammond. Throughout this season, Bussi has put together a 23-3-1 record.
Given the opportunity at the NHL level this season, Brandon has proven to be a winner," said Hurricanes General Manager Eric Tulsky. "We are thrilled that he will continue to provide a steady presence in the crease for this team into the future."
In a touching move alongside the contract announcement, the Carolina Hurricanes Foundation confirmed a $10,000 donation to the Autism Society of North Carolina. The donation honors Brandon’s younger brother, Dylan, who has autism. Bussi has famously used his goalie mask as a platform to raise awareness for the cause.
