History was made at Little Caesars Arena on Tuesday night as Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Kane recorded an assist late in the third period to reach 1,374 career points, tying Mike Modano for the most points by an American-born player in NHL history.

The milestone assist came on a goal by longtime teammate Alex DeBrincat during a 3-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings. Kane reached the mark in his 1,341st career game, 158 games faster than Modano.
Kane has tallied eight goals and 23 assists for 31 points in 39 games this season. He also scored the 500th goal of his NHL career earlier this month, becoming just the fourth American-born player to reach the milestone.
Kane's NHL journey began in 2007-08 when he made his NHL debut with the Chicago Blackhawks following being taken first overall. He made an immediate impact, winning the Calder Memorial Trophy as Rookie of the Year. Alongside captain Jonathan Toews, Kane led the Blackhawks to three Stanley Cup championships in six years. His postseason heroics were immortalized in 2013 when he was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as playoff MVP. The 2015-16 season stands as Kane’s individual masterpiece. During that campaign, he set then-career highs with 46 goals and 106 points, winning the Art Ross Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award and Hart Trophy.
