The Vegas Golden Knights acquired Rasmus Andersson from the Calgary Flames on Saturday at 50% retained, in exchange for Zach Whitecloud, prospect Abram Wiebe, a 2027 first-round pick and a conditional 2027 second-round pick.
Andersson was at the front of trade speculation for months, with both Vegas and the Boston Bruins reportedly putting together strong packages. The 29-year-old has tallied 10 goals and 20 assists for 30 points in 48 games this season. Andersson is in the final year of a six-year contract carrying a $4.55 million cap hit. He’s eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1. The former Barrie Colts standout will suit up for Sweden at the Olympics in Milano Cortina next month.
Whitecloud has tallied seven points in 47 games this season. Through eight NHL seasons, he has tallied 23 goals and 55 assists through 368 games and helped Vegas win the Stanley Cup in 2023.
Wiebe has spent the 2025-26 season with the University of North Dakota, where he has three goals and 11 assists in 24 games this season. Wiebe was selected by the Golden Knights 209th overall in the seventh round of the 2022 NHL Draft.
Calgary now owns Vegas’ 2026 and 2027 first-round picks, acquiring the 2026 pick in the Noah Hanifin trade.
